NEWSLETTER – The Paw Print Fall 2024
A Letter from the Director:
July 13th will go down as a great day in ECCHA’s history. We officially opened the doors to our new facility and saw almost 600 people come and check us out! The day was filled with new friends, great conversations, and most importantly, lots of animal applications! It’s been a very long 6 years since we started this project. We endured so much along the way and our supporters were very understanding of all the challenges. The community built this new humane association and for that, we humbly say THANK YOU!
Now that we are open for business, what does that mean? It means you have several hours in a week to stop by for our public hours (Wed 1 – 4, Thur 1 -7, and Friday and Saturday 1 -4) to come to check out all the amazing animals we have for adoption. It means we have a great conference room that can host birthday parties and group events, it means we have more volunteer opportunities to help us care for our animals. The list is endless.
All over the Midwest, animal shelters are full. There are so many great animals waiting for their new homes so now is the perfect time to add a family member to your home. Please consider stopping by to check out the new shelter and to visit with our animals.
All My Best,
Shelley Janke

ECCHA HIRES FIRST SHELTER VETERINARIAN
We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Gooden to The Eau Claire Community Humane Association (ECCHA.) Her journey to our team is a testament to her unwavering dedication to animal welfare and medicine. Growing up in Eau Claire, Dr. Gooden’s passion for animals was evident from a young age, setting the stage for her career in veterinary medicine.
Dr. Gooden’s story begins in Eau Claire, where she grew up in the community of the Chippewa Valley. This environment nurtured her love for animals, leading her to start working at The Ark Animal Hospital at the young age of 16.
This new role allows her to provide critical care and support to animals in urgent need, further showcasing her versatility and dedication to the field. Shelter medicine has always held a special place in Dr. Gooden’s heart. During her undergraduate years, she actively fostered a variety of animals for the local humane society.
We are incredibly excited to have such a passionate and experienced veterinarian join our team. Dr. Gooden’s journey from a young animal lover in Eau Claire to a dedicated professional at multiple locations is truly inspiring. We look forward to the positive impact she will undoubtedly make on our community and the lives of the animals we all cherish.
You are PAW-SOME!

Shelter News
New Name — Same Continued Mission
Eau Claire, WI – July 15, 2024 – The Eau Claire County Humane Association (ECCHA) is excited to announce that it is changing its name to the Eau Claire Community Humane Association (ECCHA). This change reflects our ongoing commitment to serving not just the animals of Eau Claire County, but the entire community.
The decision to transition from “County” to “Community” was made to better encapsulate the broad scope of our services and the diverse population ECCHA serves. We wanted to keep the same ECCHA shorthand that the community already knows while showing how we have changed to better serve Eau Claire and beyond.

Featured Adoptable Pet
Felix is a lap cat and enjoys petting and attention between naps. He is a handsome brown tabby that was surrendered in November of 2023. Felix was diagnosed and treated for diabetes just before being surrendered to the shelter. Felix’s insulin was tapered down and at this time the vet feels he needs one unit every 24 hours with his diet being monitored. He would probably do well with meeting other cats with a slow introduction as he is a shy cat.
FAQ of the Quarter
Q: What is the adoption process in the new building?
A: Now that we have moved in, we are happy to have public hours once more! While we continue the transition, we will not conduct meet and greets during our open hours unless there is already an approved app on file.
To start your adoption journey, fill out an app on our website for the pet you are interested in! Not sure? We also have general applications to fill out to meet multiple pets during your visit.
After you meet, we can finalize the adoption paperwork and you can take them home! It’s that easy!
