The Eau Claire Community Humane Association (ECCHA) isn’t just a place for pets – we strive to promote animal welfare and responsible pet ownership, while also providing opportunities for kids to learn, volunteer and make a positive impact in their communities. Children can start volunteering at the age of 10 with adult supervision. For Teachers

Educating both children and adults about the importance of animal welfare is something we feel strongly about. Teachers can get involved by inviting representatives from ECCHA to visit their classrooms and speak to students about responsible pet ownership, animal behavior and the importance of animal welfare. Teachers can also organize field trips to learn more about what we are doing to help animals in need. NEW: Teachers can adopt a small animal for their classroom year-round!

Volunteers Under 18

All volunteers are welcome, including community service and youth volunteers. Volunteers under the age of 18 will require consent from a parent/legal guardian. Any volunteers ages 10-15 must also be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian or an adult who has completed the required online orientation. Volunteers under the age of 10 are reviewed on a case-by-case basis to ensure the safety of those children volunteering.

Shelter Tours

ECCHA conducts shelter tours between 10am-5pm, Monday through Friday. Tours outside of these hours can be scheduled by contacting our volunteer director. Your guided tour will include a walk-through of the facility, during which our visitors are shown the various areas where animals are housed, cared for and offered for adoption. This is a great opportunity to learn more about ECCHA’s mission, history and the many different programs we offer.

Birthday Pawties

We are excited to offer birthday parties at Eau Claire Community Humane Association! This is a great opportunity to learn more about ECCHA’s mission, history, and the many different programs we offer, while spending time with adoptable animals (when available)! The birthday friend will also receive a gift from ECCHA!

Can kids volunteer?

Volunteers under the age of 18 will require consent from a parent/legal guardian. What happens after I submit my volunteer application?

Once the application process is completed and reviewed, you will receive an email invite to sign up for an hour of online orientation, which is required for all volunteers. There is a small orientation fee of $20 that helps support the training and needs of volunteers and includes a volunteer t-shirt.

During the orientation, volunteers learn about the humane association, our policies and procedures, as well as the programs you can get involved with.

Can I foster animals if I have other animals in my home?
Yes! Our foster coordinator will work with you to find the best fit for your home.
