Free or Reduced Adoptions for Senior Citizens!
Studies have shown that owning a pet can help people live healthier, happier lives. Owning a pet has been credited with helping to lower a person’s heart rate and blood pressure and reduce stress. As most pet owners will agree, a pet also can be a great cure for loneliness.
The Purina Pets for People Program, an adoption program funded by Purina Pet Foods, was founded in 1984 to encourage shelter animal adoption and educate people about how to be responsible pet owners. Purina will donate $50 to ECCHA to help cover the cost of adoption for each qualifying senior citizen (age 60 and over).
If you are a senior citizen interested in taking advantage of this program, simply fill out our regular adoption application, and go through the regular adoption process. When an Adoption Coordinator calls you to set up a time to complete the adoption, make sure to mention that you are over the age of 60. $50 will be deducted from your adoption fee (or the adoption will be free if the normal fee is less than $50) at the time of adoption. Please note that if the animal is not spayed or neutered, you will still be required to pay the spay/neuter deposit, which will be refunded to you when you have your new pet spayed/neutered.
